중장비 학과는 취업률이 높아서 국제학생들에게도 인기가 높은 프로그램이지만 캐나다 컬리지의 중장비 학과 중 국제학생이 입학 가능한 컬리지는 많지 않습니다.
하지만 이번에 센테니얼 컬리지에서는 국제학생을 위해 중장비 학과를 새로 개설하였는데요! 그 특징들과 세부내용들을 소개합니다!

학과소개

본 프로그램은 중장비 분야의 전문가로써 성장할 수 있는 프로그램으로써, 이론적 지식뿐 아니라 센테니얼 컬리지의 대규모 실험실에서의 실습으로 중장비 분야의 공부를 시작하기에 최적의 커리큘럼을 제공하고 있습니다. 이 프로그램에서 학생들은 주로 응용역학(applied mechanics), 차량 동력학(vehicle dynamics), 기기 설계 및 수리보수(component design and repair)를 집중적으로 학습하게 되며 프로그램에 속해있는 코스는 다음과 같습니다.

- Hoisting and Rigging

졸업 후에는 중장비 관련 다양한 분야로 취직하게 되며 그 예로는 repair facility의 견습생이나 administrative/managerial roles 또는 parts departments/suppliers등이 있습니다. 본 프로그램은 학생들이 해당분야에서 일을 시작하고 성공적인 전문가로 거듭날 수 있도록 이끌어주는 Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Apprenticeship Curriculum Standards에 근거하여 진행됩니다.

학과 비교

코네스토가 컬리지에도 센테니얼 컬리지처럼 Motive Power Technician-Heavy Duty Equipment학과가 있는데요 센테니얼은 Semester1~4까지로 이뤄져 있고 코네스토가는 Level 1~5까지로 이루어져 있습니다. 무엇보다 가장 큰 차이점은 센테니얼과 달리 코네스토가는 중장비 관련분야에서 견습직으로 일한 경험이 있을 경우 Level1과 2과정의 면제를 받을 수 있습니다. 뿐만 아니라 Red Seal 이나 Ontario College Motive Power Certificate 를 가지고 있거나 motive power journey person일 경우에 바로 두 번째 연도의 과정부터 시작할 수 있다는 점입니다.
또한 커리큘럼 측면에서의 차이점은, 코네스토가 컬리지는 Level1과 2가 기초내용부터 공부해나가는 구조로 이뤄져 있어서 관련분야에 경력이 없는 학생들이 따라가기 수월하고 센테니얼의 커리큘럼은 기초내용보단 중요핵심내용을 2년 동안 꾸준히 다루는 식으로 구성되어 있어 처음 이 분야를 공부하는 학생들보다는 관련분야의 경험이 있는 분들에게 보다 적합하다고 할 수 있습니다.
