지난 11월 캐나다 입국을 위해 ETA 등록이 의무화 되면서 가장 혼동을 겪는 대상이 학생비자나 취업비자를 가지고 계신 분들입니다.

Outside Canada에서 학생비자나 취업비자를 2015년 8월 1일 이후에 받은 분들은 유학이나 취업 허가서에 ETA Number가 명시되어 있어서 별도로 ETA 등록을 할 필요가 없습니다.

하지만 아래 이민국 공지메일을 보시면 학생비자나 취업비자를 연장 신청해서 유효한 비자를 받아 가지고 계신 분들은 ETA 번호가 자동 부여가 되지 않아서 만약 캐나다를 떠났다가 재입국을 하려면 ETA 등록을 해야 할 것이라고 안내하고 있습니다.
학생비자 소지자의 경우 등록이 필수인 대상이 아니라고 하더라도 등록을 할 수 있으니까요.. 내가 이것을 등록해야 하는 대상인지 아닌지가 헷갈리신다면 일단 등록을 하시라고 권하고 싶습니다.

ETA 등록 후 여권이 바뀌었다면 ETA도 다시 등록을 해야 합니다.

This is a follow-up message from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada about the need for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada.
Make sure you don’t get stuck at the airport! Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an eTA to fly to or transit through Canada, including visa-exempt foreign nationals with a valid work or study permit. Please note:

- If you were issued a study or work permit before August 1, 2015, and your permit is still valid, you will need an eTA if you wish to enter or return to Canada by air.
- If you were issued a study or work permit extension and your permit is still valid, you will need an eTA if you wish to enter and return to Canada by air. An eTA is not automatically issued or renewed when you extend your permit.

With the busy travel season upon us, make sure you apply for your eTA as soon as possible. Otherwise you may not be able to board your return flight to Canada.

NOTE: If you are a Permanent Resident (PR) of Canada, please disregard this message. PRs are not eligible to apply for an eTA and, as usual, must show their permanent resident card or a permanent resident travel document when travelling to Canada.
